Thinking Happy Hour + Street Food? Think Brava!

Brava! Pizza's pizza + Peroni Happy Hour is what you should be doing tonight.
Brava! Pizza's pizza + Peroni Happy Hour is what you should be doing tonight. Or tomorrow night.

Your weekend really should start on Thursday, shouldn’t it? And you love street food, right? So try this on for size: From 5p-7p on Thursdays and Fridays, Brava! Pizza (more on them here) is serving up inexpensive and delicious hot za with equally inexpensive cold beers on the 16th Street Mall. I stopped in after work last Friday with some friends, and took a seat on the patio next to the Clock Tower (at 16th and Arapahoe) and sipped cold, cold Peronis while the Brava! crew prepped a round of piping hot margherita pizzas. I think it was $8 for the pie and the first beer. Subsequent beers were $4. One of the pleasures of street food, of course, is the street, and if you haven’t people watched on the 16th street mall in a while, these awesome pies are as good excuse as any, and probably a better excuse than most. And did we mention how much we love it when our fave street vendors find creative ways to serve booze with their food?

Or try ’em for lunch!

Gad Zukes! Garden fresh zucchini and squash aboard a fine white pie. Thanks to Dave of Brava! for the pic

If you can’t make it to happy hour, or if the lure of one of these fine pizzas is way too strong to wait until 5, check ’em out for lunch – I know you won’t be disappointed. Dave from Brava! emailed me a couple days ago with his specials of the week:

  • A garden pizza – a classic white za with lots of garlic infused olive oil, goat cheese, grilled zukes and squash that he grew in his own garden (!!),  grilled red peppers and local ‘shrooms.
  • A porchetta flatbread sandwich – a traditional porchetta, flash roasted in their wood fired oven, served on fresh flatbread with salsa verde atop a bed of lemony arugula.

Did I mention that Dave has been named  a finalist for Denver Magazine’s Street Cart Chef of the year?  I suspect that these two specials probably will help you understand why.

Dig this: ICE SKATING!!

Brava! backs right up against Skyline Park, and according to the owner, Dave, there’s gonna be an outdoor ice skating rink going there in this winter!  He’s hoping that they can continue serving up piping hot pizzas through the colder months, probably along with hot cocoa or something to keep us warm. Cocoa? How about toddies, Dave?! We’ll need the whiskey to soothe our bruised asses after the ice skating.

Anyway, eat up, Denver! And tell ’em where you read about them!
