Great Food Truck Race to Crash Cinco de Mayo?! And a Bit on Allegiances

Civic Center Park, home of Civic Center Eats, rumored to be the location for the Great Food Truck Race event taking place Saturday.

The talk is starting to fly, friends, and if the rumors are true, the incoming food trucks that are rolling into Denver today will have their smackdown at this weekend’s Cinco de Mayo party in Civic Center Park on Saturday.  There are some substantial logistics to overcome – can you imagine just how pissed off you’d be if you were a small taco stand that had paid a load of cash to vend at this party, only to find out that a high profile cadre of food trucks was going to crash the party!? Not to mention, re-planning the space arrangement. I suspect that The Food Network is throwing a lot of cash at the deal, though. So hopefully, everyone will be happy, and the taco stands will still have a doubly successful day.

Other Locations

In addition to the Cinco de Mayo Party, vendors will likely stake out another location Saturday evening. I know that Hodge Podge will be teamed up with The Denver Cupcake Truck (see below), and that they’ll be at the Atomic Cowboy from about 4-9pm. Also, I know that The Lime Truck has got Quiero Arepas and Great Divide on their side (see below), so I’d guess that they’ll be parked at the Great Divide Tap Room after the party.

Remember – it’s conjecture!

But, all that said , remember that this is all rumor based. The Food Network is trying to make this happen, but you must stay tuned to twitter feeds and facebook all weekend to really know where folks will be. But if it’s true!?! Yay! Now I don’t have to change my plans for the weekend at all (maybe?!)  and for the first time in years, as a vegetarian, I may actually be able to eat at Cinco de Mayo instead of just filling up on low quality, high cost margaritas. Though that has always made the day incredibly entertaining – at least for my omnivore friends who manage to balance food and booze.

So, Who’s Tweeting Who?

Remember that the competing trucks cannot use their own social networks and have to rely on our vendors to make their moves known.  Use the links in the sidebar to get to everyone’s twitter and facebook feeds! So far, we’ve got a few confirmed and a few best guesses on who’s working with who. Here’s what we know:

  • The Lime Truck, fresh and tasty from Orange County, is working with my personal favorite, Quiero Arepas (formerly known as El Caribe) with back up from Biker Jim, Stick It To Me, and Great Divide. That’s right – they got beer!  (Confirmed)
  • Hodge Podge, a comfort food from Cleveland, is working, appropriately, with The Denver Cupcake Truck, with backup from Steuben’s and The Biscuit Bus.  (Confirmed.)
  • Roxy’s Grilled Cheese from Boston might be working with Chicago Louie’s (conjecture)

That’s all we know, or can guess at this point. Here are the other competing trucks:

  • Korilla BBQ from New York
  • Devilicious from San Diego
  • Cafe Con Leche from Van Nuys
  • Seabirds, all vegan and also from Orange County

Eat up, Denver. Let’s get some amazing crowds out this weekend and show Denver and the greater food truck scene that we have a world class street food scene!
